Genesis Magma Racing will be a prominent addition to the World Endurance Championship (WEC) for the 2026 season. The Hyundai Group’s luxury brand is bringing two LMDh prototypes to the starting line and is encountering a class in transition. <\/p>\n\n
The GMR-001 is based on an Oreca chassis and is powered by a 3.2-liter V8 turbo engine derived from Hyundai’s rally program. The project is being developed entirely in-house – a deliberate move to retain maximum control over performance and development. <\/p>\n\n
Visually, Genesis has a striking gray design with orange accents. Technically, the focus is primarily on reliability: the vehicle has already completed around 25,000 test kilometers. <\/p>\n\n
With Andr\u00e9 Lotterer, Pipo Derani and other experienced drivers, the team has a top-class line-up. Nevertheless, the team remains cautious: the focus for the debut year is on clean races and continuous development. <\/p>\n\n
The first race will take place at the 2026 WEC season opener in Imola.<\/p>\n\n
Parallel to the entry of new manufacturers, the scene is working on a fundamental reform: there are currently two different prototype concepts, LMH and LMDh, whose balance remains difficult.<\/p>\n\n
A joint set of regulations for both platforms is planned for 2030. However, talks between manufacturers and associations are progressing more slowly than hoped. <\/p>\n\n
