US racing driver Colton Herta will be competing for Cadillac in the 2026 season, but not in Formula 1. Instead, the 25-year-old will focus on competing in the prestigious endurance races of the North American IMSA series. The plan is to compete in the classics at Daytona, Sebring and Road Atlanta, where he will drive the Cadillac V-Series.R.
At the same time, Herta remains part of Cadillac’s Formula 1 project. He will take on the role of test and reserve driver and at the same time gain racing experience in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with the Hitech Racing team. In total, Herta will have at least 17 race appearances in 2026.
Cadillac is relying on the experienced drivers Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas as its regular drivers in Formula 1. Herta is to continue his development in Formula 2 and is to be developed as a candidate for a future Formula 1 cockpit.
In the IMSA, Herta will compete together with Jordan Taylor and Louis Delétraz – a trio that has already celebrated success together in the past. For Cadillac, Herta remains the only new addition to the IMSA line-up for 2026, while the remaining driver line-ups of the works teams remain unchanged.
With this dual program, Herta continues his career in both North America and international formula racing and is considered one of the most exciting US hopefuls for a future Formula 1 entry.
