Munich – The Swiss team Emil Frey Racing is planning another start in the DTM for the 2026 season and is relying on a different driver line-up. Italian Matteo Cairoli, who will drive a Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo, is a new addition to the team.

Cairoli has many years of experience in international motorsport. Among other things, he competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship and was part of the winning team at the ADAC 24h Nürburgring in 2021.

The second Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo will be driven by Dutchman Thierry Vermeulen. This is Emil Frey Racing’s fourth season in the DTM. According to the team, it has achieved a total of six race victories in recent years.

Cairoli has been active in various international racing series for more than a decade. In initial comments, he spoke positively about the new task and emphasized that both the DTM and the car were new territory for him. Accordingly, his initial focus is on familiarizing himself quickly.

Vermeulen has been driving for Emil Frey Racing in the DTM since 2023. Last season, he achieved three podium finishes and secured two pole positions. He is also optimistic about the coming season and points to the intensive preparation during the winter break.

With the Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo, the Italian manufacturer is launching a further developed version of its GT3 car. The changes include modifications to the aerodynamics and further technical revisions.

Team Principal Lorenz Frey-Hilti sees the 2026 season as being characterized by several innovations, including a revised vehicle package, new tires and the integration of a new driver into the team.
